Hope all are well.
Wanted to give you an update on Mac.
She has been really sick.
I've taken her to the vet twice this week.
She has kennel cough and is having a lot of respiratory issues. I've had lots of dogs
but she is the first I've ever had with it so it's been a learning experience for me.
She is very lethargic at this time. The vet told me even though she was vaccinated
for the kennel cough that there is another strain that is running rampant in our
area at this time and that it's just like the flu for humans, you can still get sick.
She coughs constantly and of course and vomits up a tons of phelgm.
I've spent this week continually laundering bed covers, yucky.
Today we went back to the vet and she is still running a fever and we are trying
to keep her hydrated. She has not gone into pneumonia as yet so we are very
thankful for that. The kids keep asking me if she is going to die. She has been
so sick that it's very had to answer that question at this time. The vet has put her on
antibiotics and cough medicine and we will do home IVs if we need to. I really had
no idea how sick kennel cough could make your pet. Of course we now also
have to try to keep her separated from our other 4 dogs as it is very contagious
for them. Mac has been sleeping with me or my oldest daughter and we keep her on
the couch in the day time so we can keep an eye on her and make sure she is ok.
The kids will be heart broken if something should happen to her but I'm believing
she will be just fine. I'd rather believe that than to think of her dying. We've
all really fallen in love with this dog and she's already family.
